Ladies Sevens on the horizon

The Mattie Farrelly Ladies football seven a side is scheduled for Gaelic Park this Saturday and it promises to be an action packed day of football. Cavan are the holders of the Cup and they are back this week to defend their title with Captain Linda McKeown, stars Colleen Jordan, Kelly McArdle and Emma Clarke leading the charge. They will be challenged by the four New York sides, with County Champions Na Fianna with superstar Molly O'Rourke, Joanne McKenna, Mary O'Rourke and Ann Dwyer looking to take away their crown. Kerry/Donegal have Denise Dunnion, Anita McKenna and Allie Kelly as their main players who will have a strong say in the quest for silver ware while Rockland with Courtney Traynor and Kelly Weir, and Fermanagh with Tracy Ann McCullough, Clare McElroy, Caroline Murphy challenging to break the mold and put a new name on the Farrelly cup. It will not be contained to New York however. Boston Shamrocks, and Tir NaOg out of Boston are both coming down to try and follow in the footsteps of Fr Toms who won the New York sevens hurling title last Saturday. The City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia are also sending a team while the Nations Capital Washington will be represented by a side as well.
It all amounts to a day you will not want to miss. Starting time is 12 noon at the Mecca that is Gaelic Park.
