Kerry Club AGM

January 11, 2010
The Kerry Football club is holding their annual General Meeting this Sunday the 17th of January at 4 pm at the Kerry Hall at 305 McLean Avenue. While team of the decade and club of the year titles are handed out with aplomb across the universe in all sports, the Kerry Club has had undoubted success in the last ten years in the NY GAA record books. The club has been in existence from the earliest days of New York's GAA history and it has two sides challenging in the 2010 season with the Intermediate side a perennial contender, (Champs of 2007) while the senior side has annexed four of the last six senior Championships. The club looks back on many turning points in its history with the vaunted Foley brothers back boning their sides throughout the fifties and sixties while a Junior trifecta in 1963, 64 and 65 launched that side into the limelight. In recent memory however the senior side that Captured the 1999 B and then A titles stands out as one that truly put the club back on the map. It was backboned by a slew of New York stars. Paddy O'Connor, Adrian (Sammy) Finn, Paul Dillon, Naill Sugrue, Mike Carmody, John McGlynn who was a summer player off the Kerry country panel, Superstar Bingo Driscoll, and Man of the match in the A final Willie O'Donnell. At the time weekend players were still used by the football clubs in NY with John Crowley, Seamus Moynihan, and Dessie Farrell all playing parts in the magical season. Paddy Kearney was the man pulling the strings on the line and the stage was set. The Junior side had wins in 2000 and 2007, while the seniors with Pa Murphy, Finbarr Flood, Naill Corbett, Crowley and Bingo again, , Dan Doona, Dave McSweeney, Stephen Kavanagh, Derek Riney all prominent took home the titles of 04, 05, 06, and 08. The outgoing Senior officers are John Riordan Chairman, Bingo Driscoll Senior Manager, Brendan Henchy, Intermediate Manager. All Officers, players, and Supporters are invited to attend for the election of officials for the 2010 year. Again start time is 4 pm. Contact the secretary Joan Henchy at (914) 476-7452 for information.
