New York and Kerry GAA has 'lost a great Gael' with the sad passing of John Riordan earlier this week.

Born in the Kingdom in 1946, John emigrated to America in 1964 and went on to become a leading light with the Kerry club in New York.

He served as President of NY GAA and also played a key role in the redevelopment of Gaelic Park.

His home club, Castlegregory posted the following tribute on Facebook: "All in Castlegregory GAA were saddened to hear of the passing late on Monday evening of John Riordan, late of Lisnakealvee, Brandon, and Brooklyn, New York.

"John dedicated his life to the GAA, he looked after everyone from home when they came to New York and was a great supporter of Castlegregory and Kerry football. 

"May he Rest In Peace."

What a great Kerry man, they don't make many like that anymore. He looked after a lot of nervous anxious Irish/Kerry men as they landed in JFK, in his company you almost felt like you were at home. RIP
