Mallon, John

The Late John Mallon The passing of John Mallon had deprived the Edendork community of one of its most respected members. John was involved in many activities associated with Edendork, but most notably with St Malachys football club which he served with distinction all his life as a playing member, committee member, fundraiser and organiser. His proudest day was at the opening of the new playing field and pavilion over which he had devoted many long hours of tireless work to see to its completion. As a member of Edendork Pipe Band, he served many years as a piper and only a few months before his death he undertook a fundraising campaign to resurrect the band which had been dormant for a few years, and he was the chief fundraiser of proceeds which are being used to equip the band with a new uniform and instruments. He made a great contribution when a Past Pupils Committee of St Malachys Primary School, Edendork decided to hold a reunion a year before his death. This was greatly appreciated. His organisational skills were seen when he was in charge of the Bingo which was held in Edendork Hall and for many years was the main fundraiser for St Malachys football club and Dungannon Parish. Whatever John undertook, the bottom line was excellence as his many friends will testify - and his advice and wisdom will be greatly missed by the Edendork community and most of all by his friends.
