An Charraig Mhór Allergy Awareness presentation

April 30, 2013
An Charraig Mhór GFC are hosting an Allergy awareness evening on Tuesday the 7th of May in their club rooms at 7.30pm. They have extended an invitation to all their own coaches and the coaches of all GAA clubs within the county. The invitation has also been extended to all other groups and organisations in the Carrickmore parish or indeed any groups outside of the parish who feel they could benefit from being in attendance.

A short presentation will be given by Ryan Mc Callan about the condition based on his experiences with his own son. Dr Michael Herron will be in attendance to give a demonstration on the use of Epi-pen's & Anapen's and to take any questions. It is envisaged that the proceedings as a whole will take no longer than 30 minutes.

Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause serious illness and possibly death. It typically causes a number of symptoms including an itchy rash, throat swelling, and low blood pressure. Common causes include insect bites, stings, reactions to certain foods, Latex/Rubber and certain medications. The primary treatment is injection of epinephrine and Antihistamines. The percentage of young people with this condition has dramatically increased in recent years and the An Charraig Mhór club has taken the lead in trying to raise awareness of it within their club and the wider GAA community.
