The Senior and Reserve teams had Moy as visitors on Sunday 13th May and both suffered heavy defeats. The Senior team are still searching for their first win and a big improvement is required from the majority of players in the weeks ahead. This weekend the teams are due to travel to Urney on Sunday 20th May with Reserves at 2.15pm and Senior 3.45pm. All support for the teams welcome. (At time of going to press it is unsure whether the Reserve game will go ahead, all supporters should check with Dominic Donaghy on 07876135808 before travelling).
The Minor Boys made the short trip over to Aghaloo to take on their near neighbours last Wednesday 9th May. In a very keenly contested game the lads put in a good performance and were unlucky to lose by 3 points in the end. The team started well and led by 4 points approaching halftime but the home side rallied before the break to level the scores at 1-5 apiece. Aghaloo began the second period very strongly and forged a decent advantage, but Killeeshil finished the game with a flourish and but for some bad luck on couple of occasions when through on goal the lads could have got something from the game. The team can take alot of positives from the performance and build for the weeks ahead. Next up for the Minors is a home game against Rock on Friday 18th May at 7.30pm. All players should be in changing rooms for 6.45pm.
The U-14 Boys lost out to Pomeroy on Monday 14th May. The lads are back in action on Thursday 17th May when they are scheduled to travel to play Kildress, the game has a 7.30pm throw-in. All players should be in Killeeshil at 6.00pm for transport to Kildress.
There will be an U8 Boys Blitz on Saturday 19th May at 10.30am in Killeeshil. All players to be at pitch for 10.00am.
Training for all U8, U10 and U12 Girls continues on Tuesdays from 6.00pm-7.00pm. The U10 Girls Bitz on Saturday 19th May, which was due to be hosted by Errigal Ciaran, has been cancelled due to Holy Communion in Ballygawley Parish.
The U14 Girls were due to meet Glenelly on Wednesday 16th May. Report to follow next week.
The Minor Girls at this point have still not received any dates for their League or Championship Finals due to the on-going success of the County minors in the Ulster Championship. Best of luck to our representatives on the team; Emma-Louise Mulgrew, Louise Kelly, Flo Keenan, Ursula McGee, Anne and Genevieve Scullion in the Ulster Final this weekend.
The Senior Ladies were away to Cappagh on last Friday 11th May. The girls failed to get going to their usual high standard on the night, but were able to come away with a 5 point win. They now play Carrickmore in the Championship quater-final next Tuesday 22nd May, with a time and venue TBC.
The 'Townland Quiz' took place last Friday 11th May in Quinn's Corner. All corners of the Parish were represented and 13 teams gathered to do battle for the title of Quiz Champions! There were 10 Rounds ranging across a variety of topics with all teams performing well when faced with some tricky questions, not least the 'Picture Round' which featured the faces of some local people and brought a few laughs from the large crowd in attendance. The competition was fierce, only 2 points seperating the top 3 teams. In 3rd place on 106 points were Reasky Business, in 2nd place on 107 points were Lady and the Tramps and the deserving winners were Derryhoar on 108. Well done to all the competitors who ensured it was a great nights entertainment. Thank-you to Liam and Anita Hoy for compiling the questions and to Jerome McKenna who done a fine job as quizmaster on the night.
Thank you to Helena McIlhatton who kept the scoreboard. A word of thanks also to Paudge and Caramel for hosting the quiz and for the lovely food that was served. Thanks also to the Community Centre Committee for the Townland Quiz Trophy. A big thankyou to the organising committee for their efforts over the last number of weeks. Vice-Chairman Dermot Begley then took the microfone and thanked everyone for coming along and began the presentations for last years successful Senior Men and Ladies squads. Both teams collected their winners medals and the following individual award were also handed out; Senior Ladies Player of the Year: Rebecca Loughran. Most Improved Mens: James Morris. Reserve Player of the Year: Barry Mulgrew and the Senior Mens Player of the Year 2011 was: Gary Reilly. Congratulations to all the prize winners. The award for Club Person of the Year was also announced and the recipient was Jerome McKenna. Well done on a much deserved award. Hopefully Jerome will continue his sterling work around the club, though it has been rumoured he is considering a career in Television!!
