An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C.
Major Clean-Up
Development Officer Francie McQuade and Club Chairman Peter McKearney are spearheading a major clean-up and development of our clubrooms and ground this Saturday morning (19th March), commencing at 9.00am.
Francie and Peter are urging all club members and volunteers to come along on Saturday and ensure that Páirc Thír na nÓg is fully operational and in prime condition for all adult and underage games this year.
A meeting was held last week to plan this event. Volunteers will be put into small working groups and delegated a task so that the clubhouse and ground is safe, secure and looking good for the season ahead.
The more people who turn up, the less work there will be for everyone in attendance. Everyone is welcome to come along and lend a helping hand. "Ask not what your club can do for you, but what you can do for your club."
Club Maith Gold Award
Representatives of An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. were invited to the Armagh City Hotel on Wednesday 9th March to officially receive the Club Maith Gold Award Certificate from Ulster GAA Council President Aogan Ó Fearghail.
Club Maith is a club accreditation scheme which is unique to the GAA. It allows clubs to be benchmarked against best practice standards across the full range of GAA club activity. A Club Maith award makes a clear, proven statement about the quality of a club right across the board.
We would like to take this opportunity to again thank our Development Officer Francie McQuade who invested a huge amount of time, effort and hard work into this project and, along with others, helped secure this prestigious award.
Annual Table Quiz
There was a good turn-out for our club's Annual Table Quiz which took place in PB's Bar, Moy last Friday night. Eight teams battled it out for the right to be crowned quiz champions for 2011 and, following several intense rounds of general knowledge questions, the team called 'The Ex-Chairmen' emerged victorious.
Celine Donaghy was captain of the winning team and, in a very generous gesture, donated the winning prize back to the football club. All proceeds from the night will be going towards club funds and we would like to thank everyone who took part in the quiz and supported this entertaining event in any way.
Speaking at the end of the night, Club Chairman Peter McKearney thanked the following people: P.B. and Kathleen Laverty for the use of their premises; Eimear McKearney, Mary Daly and the Moy ladies for organising the quiz and preparing the delicious supper; quizmaster Colin Mackle and his scorekeepers; Sean Kelly for the loan of his amplification; and all those who kindly donated prizes to the raffle.
Under 18 Girls
Having won their opening two games in the league, An Mhaigh Under 18 girls will travel to Urney this Saturday (19th March) to take on the home side in round three. Throw-in time for the game is still to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the draws and dates have been decided for this year's minor girls championship. An Mhaigh will play Pomeroy away in the quarter-finals on Monday 18th April at 6.30pm, with the winners to meet Urney in the semi-finals on May 6th.
For more information, contact team mentors Paddy McKeown, Tommy Conlon or Sinéad McNicholl.
Under 14 Boys
An Mhaigh Under 14 boys continued on their winning ways in a re-arranged league fixture against Stewartstown, last Friday evening. This game was played under lights at Páirc Thír na nÓg, and team mentor Gerry Fearon reports:
"The weather was not conducive to free-flowing football, and it took both teams a while to get used to the slippery wet conditions. Stewartstown settled the quickest and, following the early exchanges, the Moy lads were trailing by a few points. But this team does not panic and they soon registered a couple of goals and a few points of their own.
"There was an opportunity for someone to have earned £250 had they brought a camcorder to the match. A slippery ball, boots not tied and "it was my weaker foot" were the excuses used by a certain player who missed the proverbial 'sitter'. We will be forced to name and shame him if this trend continues! We also had a cameo appearance in full forward from Paddy Mac, who managed to score a textbook goal. Afterwards, Paddy said that he had the taste for forward play so watch this space.
"It is fair to say that the Stewartstown team are in a period of transition and have the basis of a good side going forward, but the Moy team was just too strong on the night. At half-time the score read 6-6 to 1-4 in Moy's favour, but credit to Stewartstown who battled on and never gave up until the final whistle. The game was played in the right spirit and, in the end, the Moy team won by a big margin."
An Mhaigh Squad: Jordan Conroy, Liam Lynch, Cormac Mallon, Ryan Casey, Lorcan O'Hanlon, Tom Loughran, Reece O'Neill, Ryan Coleman, Mark Regan, Francie Kelly, Matthew Collins, Philip Mallon, Conor Foster, Rory Magee, Jack Campbell, Ojan Jordan, Paddy Daly, Paddy Mackle, Michael Conroy, Diarmuid McKeown, Ronan Mallon and Eoin Kelly.

Clann Na nGael CLG
Men's Senior and Reserve Teams
Training continues on Tuesday and Friday nights in Aughabrack commencing at 7.30pm. There has been a disconcerting downturn in numbers at training recently so all players who, for one reason or another, have allowed their attendance levels to slip are asked to redouble their efforts and help boost the turnout.
The senior panelists travelled to Leckpatrick Owen Roes last Sunday (13th March) and emerged with a share of the spoils after a gutsy second half fightback, culminating in an exceptional equalising score from Gary Devine deep in stoppage time. This ensured the game finished deadlocked at 1-12 apiece. The conditions militated against a free flowing contest but nevertheless it proved a useful exercise as preparations continue for the beginning of All County League action next month.

The club are now seeking a technical assistant to provide support for the men's Senior and Reserve teams' management.
