MENS FOOTBALL
The Pearses suffered a disappointing Championship exit at the hands of Kildress on Friday evening in Loughmacrory.  Galbally started the better of the two going three points to the good with scores from Paul Rafferty and Michael Murphy. Kildress then got on the score sheet and went ahead before Rafferty converted a free to level the game.  Both teams exchanged points before the half with Eamon McElroy hitting a well taken score after initial good work from Peter Gillespie, but Kildress went into the break with a one point lead. Half-Time 6-5.  Rafferty, who obtained an injury just before the whistle, was unable to line out for the second half, and playing against the wind the Pearses struggled to obtain scores.  Murphy hit the point of the game to bring the match level early on but this was to be Galbally's last score with Kildress converting five points to win on a score line of 11-6.

The Seniors travelled to Urney on Saturday 21st August in a bid to claim back to back league wins and continue their fight against relegation. It wasnt to be on the day and the team fell to a 2-10 to 0-11 defeat, a result that leaves Killeeshil still in some deep trouble at the foot of the Division 2 table. There are three league games remaining and as it stands the team can still haul themselves to safety.
The Reserves took on their Urney counter-parts for the second time in just over a week and suffered another loss to the north Tyrone men.       An Mhaigh G.A.C. Youth Officer Martin Conroy, who helped organise the visit, reports: "50 players and many more coaches and supporters made their first ever visit north to stay with host families from Moy, carrying on a tradition between our two clubs which has lasted over twenty years.
"Our Carrigaline friends arrived on Friday afternoon and, after a short break in Moy, they travelled to the home of Errigal Ciaran to take part in an Under 11 challenge match and an Under 13 friendly game.  They were treated to some fine hospitality by the host club and got to meet Mickey Harte and Peter Canavan.
"Saturday morning was all about team-building and having fun as the Carrigaline youngsters joined the Moy Under 13 squad at Todds Leap activity centre.  It was then back to Páirc Thír na nÓg later that afternoon for two more challenge games at Under 13 and Under 11 level.  The Carrigaline Cups were presented to the winning teams and, in a repeat of what happened when we visited Cork last year, Moy took the Under 13 honours and Carrigaline enjoyed success in the Under 11 game."
The weekend itinerary, meanwhile, also included: a mini-BBQ at Páirc Thír na nÓg on Saturday afternoon; games and activities for the youngsters in Moy Parochial Hall on Saturday evening; social events for the adults in The Auction Rooms on Friday and P.B.'s on Saturday night; and Sunday Mass in St John's Church, Moy.
Following the Sunday morning Mass in which members of both Carrigaline and An Mhaigh G.A.C. took part in the Liturgy of the Word and Offertory Procession, the Cork crew set off for Dublin to watch their county in action in the All-Ireland Semi-Final at Croke Park before returning home.  Cork's victory over Dublin in the big match capped a wonderful weekend for our friends from Carrigaline.
Although we are situated in opposite ends of the country, this recent visit served to strengthen the already close links between our two proud clubs.  It proved to be a very eventful and enjoyable few days for everyone concerned.  Visitors and hosts alike will no doubt have lasting memories of the weekend just past.
A lot of work and preparation went into making this a weekend to remember.  As Marty Conroy said afterwards: "The host families played a huge part in the success of this visit, ensuring all players were well looked after.  Our club members were also responsible for the catering, travel arrangements and matches. All those involved are to be thanked for their support."
Red Hand Joy!
Well done to An Mhaigh pair, Nina Murphy and Patricia Conroy, who were members of the Tyrone ladies senior football squad which caused a major upset last weekend in defeating reigning All-Ireland champions Cork at the Quarter-Final stage.  The O'Neill County cailíní stopped Cork's bid for a sixth consecutive All-Ireland title, and we wish them every success for the remainder of the competition.
Meanwhile, we also salute our very own Eunan Deeney, and the entire Tyrone minor football squad and management, who booked their place in this year's All-Ireland Final with a great victory over Mayo at Croke Park last Sunday.  Eunan once again lined-out in defence for the Red Hands and gave another impressive display.  Maith thú.
Men's Senior Team
An Mhaigh senior men's footballers crashed to a heavy defeat away to league leaders Errigal Ciaran in Division One last Saturday.
The visitors started brightly and, despite conceding a very soft goal in the 8th minute, were still very much in contention at the start of the second quarter.  Midfielder James Devlin also struck the crossbar for An Mhaigh midway through the first half but it was Errigal who dominated the closing stages and struck six points without reply to lead 1-9 to 0-3 at the break.
Things continued to go downhill for the Tír na nÓgs after the restart, and Sean Cavanagh's point in the 43rd minute was his side's only score in the second half.  Moy's day went from bad to worse when Colm Cavanagh was sent off for a second yellow card offence five minutes from the end.  Final Score: Errigal Ciaran 2-16 An Mhaigh 0-4.
Team & Scorers: Barry Gribbin; Brendan Kelly, Niall Conlon, Adam Currie; Matt Murren, Mark Jordan, Padraig Laverty; James Devlin and Colm Jordan; Colm Cavanagh (0-1), Kris Kavanagh, Sean Cavanagh (0-2); Philip Jordan, Ryan Mellon (capt, 0-1), Conall Duffy.  Subs used: Tommy Conlon (15 mins) and Martin Kernan (h-t).
League Position: Played 12, Won 6, Drawn 0, Lost 6, Points 12.  Remaining Fixtures: v Omagh (home) on Sunday 5th September at 1.30pm; v Cookstown (away) on Sunday 12th September; v Coalisland (home) on Saturday 18th September.
Boys Under 16 Team
An Mhaigh Under 16 lads welcomed league leaders Derrylaughan to Páirc Thír na nÓg on Wednesday 18th August.  Despite losing in the end by seven points, the Sky Blue juveniles played some good football and still remain in a strong position to qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition.
Played in damp conditions, the first half was a closely contested affair.  An Mhaigh trailed by two points at the break (0-5 to 0-7) but one of the game's key moments came during the second quarter when Mark McConville had a goal-bound shot brilliantly saved by the Derrylaughan number one.
Moy's understrength team, led brilliantly on the night by Joe McMahon in defence and Jack Kelly and Daniel Beaddie at midfield, remained in contention for much of the second half.  However, their fate was sealed minutes from the end when Derrylaughan fisted to the net for the game's only goal. Final Score: An Mhaigh 0-9 Derrylaughan 1-13.
Team & Scorers: Eoin Fearon; Liam Kelly, Conor McCourt, Daryl Mills, Jack Donaghy, Joe McMahon; Jack Kelly (0-1) and Daniel Beaddie (capt, 0-1); Mark McConville (0-2), Jack McDonald (0-3, 2 fk), Turlough Kelly, Niall McConville (0-1), Chris O'Neill (0-1).  Sub used: James Cavanagh (34 mins).
League Position: Played 8, Won 4, Drawn 0, Lost 4, Points 8.  Remaining League Fixtures: v Brackaville (away) on Wednesday 25th August at 7.15pm; v Brockagh (home) on Tuesday 31st August at 7.15pm.
Meanwhile, An Mhaigh are scheduled to play Aghyaran away in the preliminary round of the championship on Saturday 28th August.  For more information on training and fixtures, contact team mentors Sean Cartmill, Raymond Kelly or Gerry McCourt.
Girls Under 16 Team
An Mhaigh Under 16 girls have two very important fixtures coming up in the space of the next seven days.  The Tír na nÓg cailíní will play Loughmacrory away in the league on Tuesday 24th August at 7.15pm, and will then play Fintona away in the opening round of the championship on Monday 30th August at 7.00pm.
League Position: Played 3, Won 2, Drawn 0, Lost 1, Points 6.  For more information on training and fixtures, contact team mentors Aiden McCormack, Eimear McKearney, Jenna Hagan or Aiveen McCormack.
Girls Under 12 Team
Páirc Thír na nÓg was the venue on Thursday 19th August for the meeting of An Mhaigh Under 12 girls and Ardboe.  In what turned out to be a very enjoyable and evenly-contested game, the home side took an early lead.  Ardboe, however, came back well in this opening half and they led at the break by a single point.
After the break, Ardboe tagged on some early scores.  While the Moy girls finished the stronger team, they just could not close the gap and lost narrowly in the end. Among those who impressed for the young Sky Blues were the Doherty sisters, Caoilainn and Seanin, and Aileen Jones who all gave outstanding defensive displays.
Team: Ciara O'Hanlon, Emer Currie, Shona Jordan, Alice Kelly, Levina O'Neill, Anna McDonald, Ciara Mallon, Seanin Doherty, Siobhan Keppler, Emma Lavery, Caoilainn Doherty, Aileen Jones, Catherine O'Hanlon.
An Mhaigh's next game will be away to Stewartstown on Tuesday 24th August at 6.30pm.  For more information on training and fixtures, contact team mentors Martin O'Hanlon or Patricia Conroy.
Sympathy
It was with deep regret and sorrow that the committee, players and members of An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. learned of the death on Tuesday 17th August of Mickey McGurk (Roxborough Park, Moy), beloved father of our esteemed club member John.
To John and the entire McGurk family circle, we at the club extend our heartfelt sympathy.  Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a anam uasal.

Cookstown got off to the worst possible start after the break, when Omagh scored a goal and a point within the first two minutes to put seven between the sides, and effectively end the game. To their credit Fr Rocks battled on and two frees from John Gilmore were backed up by points from Barry Hughes, Raymond Mulgrew, Owen Mulligan, Niall Glackin and Ryan Pickering.
