Stephen O'Neill has made a dramatic return to Mickey Harte's Tyrone set-up ahead of the county's All-Ireland final against Kerry in under three weeks time. The former 'Footballer of the Year' shocked may when he had announced in the New Year that he was retiring from inter-county football due to poor form and injury. However, after a players meeting last night (Wednesday) among the Tyrone squad it was confirmed that all were in favour of their former star attacker making a return for a third All-Ireland decider. "The players held a meeting last night, and it was unanimous that they wanted him to return to the panel," said county PRO Damien Harvey. "It's a significant development and a significant boost to the preparations for the All- Ireland final. "Stephen is one of the best forwards the game has known, he was Footballer of the Year in 2005, and if he's back to the form that people say he is back to with his club, then he's definitely a great option to have on the day and a great addition to the squad." O'Neill is set to return to training with his native county tonight (Thursday) after an eight-month lay off, but is almost sure to provide as much a boost to the O'Neill men as Paul Galvin's return for the Kingdom this Sunday when his three-month suspension elapses.
