Conor McKenna’s Aussie Rules coach wasn’t impressed when he heard that the player had lined out for his local club in last Saturday’s Tyrone relegation play-off.
The 23-year-old scored a second-half goal as Eglish overcame Edendork by 2-9 to 1-10 to maintain their ACFL Division 1 status in Tyrone.
Speaking to SEN radio station, Essendon coach John Worsfold revealed: “We certainly didn't send him back there to play football.
“I was really disappointed when I heard that. We know he's passionate about his Gaelic footy. He's an energetic young man, his personality is so up and about.
“It puts them (Irish AFL players who play GAA) at risk of an injury, of doing something that's outside their contract.
“In effect, it puts them at high risk of costing themselves a contract or a lot of money.”
