Strabane Sigersons club notes

January 16, 2019

Social Club;

This Saturday night Sigersons will be showing the McKenna Cup final between Tyrone and Armagh live in the social club from 7.30pm, all members are encouraged to support the social club.

Youth Football;

On Thursday 9th January Strabane Sigersons hosted their 2018 youth awards night in the Fir Tress Hotel, there was a big crowd in attendance to see who picked up the sought-after awards for their previous season. However, as chairman Liam Sweeney and Youth Officer Arán McGowan both stated that it’s not just about winning the awards but about representing their club around the county with their friends.

2018 saw our youth teams’ field again at every level from under 6 right up to under 18 both boys are girls, the talent we have in our club is immense and it is down to the dedication of our young players turning up to train and the coaches who offer their time voluntarily every week to ensure the best opportunity is being offered to these players.

On the night Debbie Deans from our main sponsor Strabane Training Services spoke to the young people to tell them about the great opportunities on offer within their training centres. Strabane Training Services have been a valued sponsor of Strabane Sigersons for many years, we would encourage any of our young players leaving school at 16 or 18 to have a look at some of the fantastic courses on offer.

Also speaking was Danielle Flanagan who works with the Public Health Agency, Danielle talked to the young people about mental health awareness. Mental health is a huge issue at present, the information provided was really helpful to the young people as they were made aware of where they could speak to someone if they felt they needed too. It’s always important to remember ‘It’s Ok not to be Ok’!

We would like to thank all the young people who attended, we also would like to thank all the parents, without parents sending their children to Strabane Sigersons many of these young people would never have got the opportunity to play Gaelic Football, it is never too late to start. We also want to thank the coaches who have put in another year of fantastic effort ensuring that a high level of coaching is delivered to our young players.

Thanks to Johnny Kelly at the Fir Trees Hotel for hosting us yet again, Johnny and the hotel have also been fantastic sponsors to us over the years we encourage all our members to give them your trade.

Well done to everyone below who received their awards, they were all very hard to choose by each of your coaches, we look forward to seeing everyone in the coming weeks and months for the 2019 season and to all our 2018 players who are now progressing to adult football we look forward to seeing you represent the Men’s and Ladies team respectively for many years.
