Reigning champions St Thomas' staged a dramatic comeback to edge Castlegar on a 2-23 to 3-18 scoreline in their Galway SHC group 3 clash at Pearse Stadium yesterday evening.

The back-to-back Callanan Cup winners found themselves 10 points down at one stage after first half goals from Oisin Connolly and Enda Concannon put Castlegar into the ascendancy.

But St Thomas' showed their experience, and they grew in prominence while their key men Eanna Burke and Conor Cooney stood up.

Cooney finished with 1-8 to his name and his injury-time goal snatched victory for the Peterswell outfit.

In the earlier throw-in in Salthill, Turloughmore defeated Liam Mellows, 1-18 to 1-16, in Group 2.

There are three more matches coming up this afternoon including the clash of Portumna and Sarsfields at Kenny Park.
