Michael O'Loughlin was the Clonlara hero in Sixmilebridge yesterday as he converted three late frees to give his side an opening victory in the Clare SHC.
O'Loughlin showed his composure in front of the posts when it mattered most at O’Garney Park, where Clonlara claimed a narrow 0-19 to 1-14 victory against Newmarket-on-Fergus to advance to the second round in a fortnight's time.
The only goal of the game came from Newmarket's Stephen Kelly on the stroke of half time at which Clonlara led by 0-11 to 1-6.
Elsewhere, on Friday evening, Aidan McCarthy scored 1-10 as Inagh-Kilnamona overcame Clooney-Quin at Cusack Park, 2-17 to 0-14.
