Meath club's unenviable record

Boardsmill hudle before their crucial SHC clash with Na Fianna at Rathmolyon

A Meath senior hurling club have continued a trend that dates back four decades.

Boardsmill who were the kingpins of Meath hurling during the early seventies were relegated from the senior ranks last month.

This kept a sequence of relegations going dating back to 1989, 1999, 2009 and this year, 2019. To say nine is their unlucky number may be an understatement.

The rural club have always battled against emigration and this year was no different as they were missing key players throughout the campaign.

However, a stat of a more positive nature is that they bounced back up to the senior ranks in 1990 and 2000, while they were beaten in controversial circumstances in the 2010 IHC final, before making amends a year later.

So, it would take a brave man to bet against them winning the 2020 IHC title!!
