Causeway 2-13

Lixnaw 1-13

Causeway were crowned Kerry senior hurling champions for the first time since 1998 at Austin Stack Park yesterday when two goals from Colum Harty helped them to victory over holders Lixnaw.

Stephen Goggin's men looked home and hosed when Harty's second major gave them a 2-12 to 0-8 lead midway through the second half, but inspired by Fitzgibbon Cup winner Shane Conway who accounted for all but one point of their tally, Lixnaw fought back to leave just three points in it at the finish.

While Conway was left to plough a lone furrow up front for the champions, Causeway had Harty, Brandon Barrett and Gavin Dooley leading their scoring charge in the first half as they took a 1-7 to 0-5 lead into the interval, with Harty grabbing his first goal in the 28th minute.

The winners doubled their advantage in the second half before Lixnaw came with a late surge. Conway netted an injury-time penalty, but it was a case of too little, too late as the team in maroon and white celebrated wildly at the final whistle.
