Jackie Tyrrell feels Cathal Barrett made a meal of the incident which resulted in Richie Hogan receiving a straight red card.
Hogan's 33rd minute dismissal for a head high challenge on the corner back close to the Cusack Stand sideline made for a one-sided second half as Tipperary swept to their 28th All-Ireland SHC title.
While former Tipp goalkeeper Brendan Cummins, current Laois 'keeper Enda Rowland and ex-All-Ireland final referee Barry Kelly felt the red card was warranted on The Sunday Game last night, Hogan's former Kilkenny team-mate Tyrrell wasn't convinced.
"I just feel a bit for Richie. Could you take it in the spirit of the All-Ireland? I know maybe that it's technically a red card, but Richie's not a dirty hurler," he said.
"I don't know if it's a definite red card, it's made to look a lot worse. Cathal Barrett, for me, went down way too easy. He made an awful lot of it.
"If you think back to All-Irelands between Kilkenny and Tipperary, Tommy Walsh got pulled across in '09 and bounced straight back up. I don't think he helped Richie at all."Tweet
