Kilkenny under-20 manager DJ Carey admits managing at that level brings about situations you wouldn’t experience at any other grade.

Carey guided his native county to a Leinster title, but their quest to lift the All-Ireland was squashed by a very good Cork side last Saturday.

It was a disappointing end to the year for Carey and his troops, but looking back, the eight-time All-Ireland winner admitted to the Kilkenny People that it was a massive learning experience for him.

“It’s been a great experience,” said Carey. “There was a long lead-in to the first game, then it was a straight knockout until the Leinster final. It’s a difficult grade.

“You’re dealing with players in college and third level commitments, so it’s something that only really gets closer to the opening game.”
