Kevin Martin has appealed to Offaly supporters not to be too hard on the county's hurlers following their relegation to Division 2A of the Allianz Hurling League.

"To the public, if you see them out on the street, just talk to them as if it were any other time. They didn't go out there to lose," the beleaguered Offaly manager said after yesterday's disastrous defeat to Carlow.

"It would be harsh now just to kick them when they're down. We need people to get behind them now, more than ever because I still think we can win the Joe McDonagh."

Martin continued: "We've no one else to blame but ourselves really.

"Eleven points up with a spare man, we should have done a lot better in that second half. Frankly, we just panicked."
