Leitrim SHC final: Goldrick goals help Carrick to retain crown

October 20, 2018

Carrick's Liam Moreton in action for Leitrim.

Carrick-on-Shannon 2-7

Cluainin Iomaint 0-7

Stephen Goldrick's contribution of 2-1 proved crucial as Carrick-on-Shannon retained their Leitrim SHC crown at Cluainin's expense in Pairc Sheain Ui Eslin.

The teenager swooped for majors in either half as Carrick made the challengers pay for some poor finishing. Clement Cunniffe, Liam and Colm Moreton and goalkeeper Declan Molloy also chipped in with points for the winners who held a 1-3 to 0-4 lead at the interval.

After Gavin O'Hagan had reduced the deficit to the minimum on the restart, Goldrick raised his second green flag in the 34th minute to propel the holders into a 2-3 to 0-5 lead. O'Hagan had points either side of a Colm Moreton effort, but Carrick were able to close out the game with late points from Moreton and Cunniffe before the latter was dismissed on a second yellow card.
