Longford are celebrating a first Leinster SFC victory over Meath in 36 years after they prevailed by two points in fortress Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.
On what has been a memorable day for the underdog in Leinster, Denis Connerton's men ended a nine-year wait for a first round championship win to set up a glamour provincial semi-final against All-Ireland champions Dublin at Croke Park in two weeks' time.
Expect Colm O'Rourke to call for them to split Longford now! #gaa

Carlow's first win over Kildare in 65 years, Fermanagh's first win over Armagh in 52 years, Longford's first win over Meath in 36 years. All about the Super 8s? Yeah, right.

Result Longford 0-16 Meath 0-14. And that's it our boys in blue have done it. First Leinster semi-final in 30yrs.

Meath and Kildare need to have a long hard look at themselves. Delighted for Longford and Carlow but two of the biggest populations in the country and can't even make a provincial semi final between them.

That was absolutely shambolic...no other way of putting it! Another dark day for Meath football, Longford deserved winners. #GAA

TweetStrange atmosphere in Longford when final whistle went. All through the game in fact. Nearly 6000 present but not much noise .... left very cold I thought by what they were watching I think
