One of the players involved in last weekend's novel free-taking shoot-out in the NHL quarterfinal clash between Limerick and Clare has given the system the thumbs up.

Clare's Peter Duggan gave an exhibition of free taking during the game which needed two sets of extra time to separate the sides as Limerick prevailed thanks to a shoot-out at the end.

Sudden death was needed to separate the sides, and Duggan told the Clare Champion that it was a good way to end the contest, despite the general consensus amongst the hurling public that the ending was anti-climatic.

Duggan scored 0-19 during the game, 15 of which came from frees and two from 65's and although disappointed with the outcome, he feels it was a fitting way to end the game.

"It is hard to take. I was lucky enough that they went over. I have missed them in the past. I'd say it was some spectacle to watch. It's hard to take that we didn't come out with the result," said Duggan.

He added: "Okay, we came out the wrong side but it's better to have it finished. It's nice to have a result on the day. We have a lot on our plate as it is. It gives time for the club as well. We all know how hectic the schedule is."
