Cuala captain Paul Schutte raises the Leinster club SHC trophy

Paul Schutte has revealed how a fast start was part of the plan for Cuala.

The Dalkey outfit floored Kilcormac/Killoughey with an unanswered 1-8 in the opening 18 minutes as they coasted to back-to-back Leinster club SHC titles at O'Moore Park.

"We looked over their past results in Leinster and they had only conceded something like an average of 14 points," the Cuala captain explained to the Irish Examiner.

"We didn't think we'd score as much as we did, but, I suppose, all the homework and the preparation paid off.

"When you're playing against a defensive team, it's important to get a good start; we got that 1-8 without reply. That set us up nicely. That meant they had to come out and play a bit more, which suited us. It left them a bit vulnerable at the back."
