Cuala captain Paul Schutte raises the Leinster club SHC trophy

Cuala have retained the Leinster Club SHC silverware courtesy of a 14-point victory over Kilcormac/Killoughey at O'Moore Park today.

After claiming the scalps of Dicksboro (Kilkenny) and St Martin's (Wexford), Mattie Kenny's charges justified their favourites tag when recording a resounding 1-23 to 1-9 final victory.

David Treacy took the scoring honours for the winner with 0-10 all from placed balls while the supremely gifted Con O'Callaghan contributed 1-2 to his side's cause.

The Dublin champions enjoyed a commanding 1-10 to 1-2 lead at the halfway stage while KK were down to 14 men after their goalscorer Conor Mahon had been issued with his marching orders following an off-the-ball incident with Oisin Gough in first-half stoppage time.

Dual star O'Callaghan pounced for his goal in the 11th minute and Cuala had 1-8 on the board before their Faithful County opponents got off the mark in the 24th minute.

Kilcormac/Killoughey's day went from bad to worse when Ciaran Slevin's penalty attempt was saved by the Dalkey side's goalkeeper Sean Brennan early in the second-half after Dan Currams was hauled to the ground.

The Paul Schutte captained outfit were seven points to the good (1-14 to 1-7) at the three-quarter hour mark and they refused to ease their foot off the gas.

They outscored their opponents by nine points to two in the final quarter and will now turn their attention to an All-Ireland semi-final date against newly crowned Galway champions Liam Mellows.
