Wexford champions St Martin's are sweating over the fitness of two key players ahead of Sunday's Leinster club SHC semi-final against Cuala in Parnell Park.

Player burn out is believed to be an issue that Croke Park and County Board's around the country are keen to deal with, but time after time, we are hearing outrageous stories of players playing multiple games in a short time frame.

Both Rory O'Connor and his cousin Patrick O'Connor are rated doubtful for the clash this weekend as they struggle to shake off niggling injuries.

19-year-old county star Rory has been playing through the pain barrier in recent weeks as he struggles with a knee injury and the Wexford People reports that he has been ordered to rest for eight to ten weeks in order to cure the problem.

Full back Patrick O'Connor is suffering from a bulging disc in his back and has been unable to train due to the injury. Club chairman Mick Morrissey admitted that both players were doubtful for Sunday.

"Both players are extremely doubtful but we remain optimistic. It will be a race against time but we have not yet given up on the two players," stated Morrissey.

"Rory played 20 championship games in 14 weeks, senior hurling and football, along with under-21 hurling. We have an issue with chaps playing 20 matches in 14 weeks."
