Westmeath’s delight at being crowned Allianz Football League Division 3 champions last weekend was tempered by cruciate ligament injuries for Jamie Gonoud and Finbar Coyne.

Sticky defender Gonoud tore his cruciate ligament during the Lake County’s 1-14 to 1-10 victory over Longford at TEG Cusack on March 24, while Milltownpass young gun Coyne suffered a similar injury in training.

“It’s disappointing for the two lads, but the important thing now is that they have their surgery and start their rehab with a view to regaining full fitness for next year’s campaign,” Westmeath manager Jack Cooney said.
