Wexford and Armagh break training camp rule

The Wexford hurlers and Armagh footballers are facing the prospect of losing home advantage for one of their Allianz League games next spring after travelling to Portugal for warm-weather training camps this week.

GAA rules preclude full-time training camps unless they take place in the 10-day period before a county's first provincial championship game. The penalty for breaking the rule is forfeiture of the county's first home game in next year's Allianz League. In addition, the Wexford and Armagh county boards will lose out on revenue generated from staging a home game.

Rule 6.22 (b) of the Official Guide states that "senior inter-county panels shall not be permitted to go on training weekends, or training of longer duration, after the final of their respective National League having been played, except during the 10 days period prior to a senior championship game, or during the 17 days prior to an All-Ireland senior final."

The Tyrone footballers could also be penalised if they take part in a planned training weekend in Carton House, Maynooth on May 5-6, which is a fortnight out from their Ulster SFC quarter-final against Monaghan on May 20.
