Donegal's senior football championship has been moved back to September following a decision from the county board last Monday night.

It means the county's club footballers will have to make do with league games until the conclusion of the All-Ireland senior football championship after September 2nd.

The first round of last year's championship was played on the first weekend of May but a three-month break followed as Rory Gallagher's side reach the last 12 in the race for Sam Maguire.

The competition's structure sees 16 teams divided into four groups of four with the top two from each group qualifying for the quarter-finals.
