Wicklow manager John Evans admits that he was proud of his charges performances against Antrim at the weekend.

The Saffrons were hot favourites to make it three wins from three against the Garden County, but a tough battle at Corrigan Park last Sunday ended in a draw and saw Wicklow pick up their second draw of the campaign.

Evans expressed his delight at the performance to the Wicklow People, but added that they were a young team that are still very much in the learning process.

"There's a lot of young lads there, they're learning the ropes, we made a lot of mistakes, Antrim showed their experience in how to win frees, and we'll leave that as it is, but we certainly weren't as cute. But, at the same time, I was certainly happy with the team overall," said Evans.

He added: "Conor Healy, Conor Byrne, Daniel Keane and Mark Jackson were superb, right throughout. Ross O'Brien came in at centre back and controlled it, showed a lot of maturity and, of course, what can you say about Rory (Finn) and Dean (Healy), they really played to the full of their ability.

"At the end of the day, Cathal Magee was in there as well, wonderful experience for him, and any guy that came off had given it all and I was extremely happy with it."
