'Bonner' will remain an "integral part" of Sheedy's set-up

Liam Sheedy’s worst fears were confirmed yesterday in relation to the injury sustained by Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher against Limerick last Sunday.

A scan revealed that the all-action forward will miss the remainder of the season after damaging his cruciate ligament injury and, speaking to RTE Sport, Sheedy admitted: “We were probably expecting that news.

“The medics know their stuff and had the diagnosis spot on. I'm just gutted for the chap. He's a wonderful, committed player in terms of what he's brought to me.

“He was in superb form, he'd lit up the Munster Championship and had put in some outstanding performances throughout the year.

“From his perspective it's very, very disappointing and it's a tough time. But I know Bonner Maher, I know what's in him and he will come back stronger. He will be an integral part of my set-up for the rest of 2019 that's for sure.”

Meanwhile, Sheedy isn’t overly optimistic about Cathal Barrett’s chances of lining out in the provincial decider due to a hamstring strain.

“He'll be off his feet all week. We're probably looking at the next phase more so than the Munster final. That will probably come too quick for him.”
