Maher, Pierce

September 08, 2007
Late Pierce Maher The death occurred suddenly on August 11th at his home of Pierce Maher, Clontaffe, Killea. His unexpected death shocked the entire community. Pierce was a great family man and lived for his wife and three children of whom he was very proud. Pierce loved the GAA and was an active member of JK Brackens GAA Club up to the time of his death. He was very well known in GAA circles for hooping and repairing hurleys and there was always a steady stream of hurlers calling to the house in Clontaffe with a challenge for Pierce. Pierce was gifted with his hands and he took great care and attention to this work and was always very obliging to all. No job was too big or too small for Pierce. Pierce had completed 47 years of service at Cody's Sawmills in Clonakenny and worked with three generations of the Cody family. Pierce enjoyed his job very much and was very well respected by all he came in contact with through his work. Pierce was a great husband, father, friend and neighbour, one of life's true gentlemen. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Testimony to Pierce's popularity were the large crowds of people who attended his funeral. Removal took place from his home to St. James Church, Killea followed by mass and burial in Killea Cemetery on August 15th. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Mary, son Peter, daughters Aoife and Caitriona, son-in-law Seanie, sisters Mary, Kathleen and Eillen, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, relatives and friends. Pierce's Months Mind mass will take place in St. James' Church, Killea on Sunday, September 9th at 11.00am. - Courtesy of the Tipperary Star 8th September 2007
