Moloney, Patrick

July 30, 2007
The recent death of Patrick Moloney Ballytarsna Cashel better know to his family and wide circle of friends as Pakie, removed from his community a man who was always prepared to play his role in and support local worthy causes and organisations whose principals and objectives he believed in. A member of an old and respected family long associated with Ballytarsna and Boherlahan Dualla. Pakie moloney was a progressive farmer and Agricultural Contractor with an innovative and imaginative approach to life long before the Celtic Tiger left a paw mark in rural Ireland. Pakie was passionate about what he believed in and was always prepared to give time and financial support to the organisations he was involved with. His late father Michael Moloney was a prominent hurler with Ballytarsna and Boherlahan winning county Senior hurling finals with youth clubs. It was no surprise when Pakie and his brothers became active in athletics and Gaelic fames from an early age. Pakie had a love for football and was a tenacious player with Boherlahan in the 1950s when they had a strong junior team. His love for the game never weaned and his support of Tipperary football teams of all grades brought him all over the country. I can still hear his reminders of my oversight of not starting a Gaelic Football team in Ballytarsna. Gis membership of the Friends of Tipperary Football and the success enjoyed during the McCarthy Management years of Tipp teams, gave him great satisfaction as did the football skills of Declan Brown. Among other sporting interests Pakie had, was breeding and racing greyhounds at which he enjoyed some worth while success and made many friends. Pakie Moloney in life regarded himself more a Dualla than a Boherlahan person, he was a devoted and active member of the Dually Ploughing Association and also wore the Dually colours as a hurler. He chose Dualla cemetery as his final resting place. His wake in the family home was special, restoring the old customary respectful and holy way of saying a prayerful final good bye on earth to a good friend a neighbour and a fellow Gael. His widow Mary his son and daughters will miss him most of all, also his neighbours in the closely knit community of Ballytarsna and Aughnagomaun will miss him too, as he moved about in his hurried style among them. At his removal, requiem mass and burial large crowds were in attendance to pay him their final respects. We dib out last goodbye to Pakie in Dualla cemetery, where his mortal remains rest in peace until resurrection day, his immortal soul having departed to share a place in the presence of God with his parents and friends in Heaven. Life for the longest liver is still short. Sympathy to Mary and family on his death. Courtesy of The Tipperary Star. 21 July, 2007
