The peaceful death occurred after a short illness, on Friday October 19th in Beaumount Hopsital Dublin of Tom O'Dowd, The Lake, Lorrha. Tom (also known as "Sonny") was 63 years old, lived and worked in Dublin for a long number of years, but it was alwys his wish to return to teh parish whrere he was born and spent most of his young life. He was able to fulfil that wish just a mere three years ago when he retired and returned with Theresa to reside a The Lake. A great fan of sport and in particular hurling, his interest in hurling developed with the Lorrha club where he was a member of the succesful Lorrha Juvenile teams of the late fifties, While in Dublin his love of the game continued and was nurtured to great height's when he joined the local O'Tooles club where his ability as a goalkeeper was recognised and where this skill was develped and didn't go astray as he was picked to play for his adopted County. A lover of nature and the great outdoors, he kept busy during his short retirement in the parish he loved, tending to his garden adn any maintaince work that the house needed, Tom took care of it was he could turn his hand to any job, and saving the turf on the bog was atime of the year he looked forward to. Religion was a very important part of his life and he attended Mass weekly without fail. A quiet inoffensive gentleman, Tom was a very popular and highly respected member of the local community and will be sadly missed by all who knew and came in contact with him but in particular by his family. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife Theresa, daughter Carol Kamtoh (Dublin), son Brendan (Dublin), sisters MAry O'Sullivan (Kerry), Kathleen Ryan (Clare), Ellen Rush (Templemore), son-in-law, grandchildren Joshua, Jasmine, Aleesh, step-brothers, step-sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and extended families and a large circle of friends. His remains were removed to St. Ruadhan's Church Lorrha on Monday evening October 22nd and after conclebrated funeral Mass with Fr Jeo Kennedy PP assisted by Fr John Donnelly A.P Fr JJ Rogers (Borrisokane), Fr Joe Hourigan (clare), burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
