Kennedy, Jimmy

The death of former Tipperary hurler Jimmy Kennedy of Kildangan occurred. Jimmy won three Munster and All-Ireland titles with tipperary in 1949, 1950 and 1951 as well as on National League medal (1950), one Railway Cup medal (1950) and one Oireachtas medal (1949). At schools level, Jimmy won a Harty Cup medal with St. Flannan's College Ennis in 1944 and a Fitzgibbon Cup medal with UCD in 1948. He also helped UCD to win two Dublin Senior Hurling titles in 1947 and 1948. Jimmy played for Dublin from 1946 to 1948, winning a Leinster Senior Hurling medal in 1948 before losing out to Waterford in the All-ireland final. Jimmy was captain of the Leinster team which lost out to Munster in the 1949 Railway Cup semi-final before declaring for his native Tipperary. At club level, Jimmy helped Kildangan to win the 1944 North Tipperary Junior Hurling title. Heartfelt condolences are extended to the Kennedy family on their bereavement.
