Before the business of the Mid Board C.C.C meeting commenced, John Martin, J.K. Brackens, addressed the delegates. John said that great sadness descended upon the parishes of Killea and Templemore and indeed further afield win news broke of the sudden and untimely death of Pierce Maher. John expressed how Pierce and his family were and are great supporters of J.K.Brackens Club.
Pierce was a former selector with numerous Brackens teams and was well known for repairing many a players' hurley. Such was pierce's reputation, that players came from many other clubs to have their hurleys repaired by Pierce. His daughter, Aoife is Secretary of the J.K.Brackens Club and a member of the County Youth Committee. His son, Peter, and daughter, Catheriona, are also active members of the club.
The Chairman of the Mid Board, P.J maher, concurred with John Martin and requested all delegates to stand in silent prayer in the memory of Pierce. The popularity of Pierce Maher could be gauged by the large crowd that attended his funeral in Killea. martin bourke, well known historian, gave the graveside oration. John concluded the ceremony by rendering the Tipperary anthem, Slievenamon. Ar dheis Do go raibh a-anam.
