Delaney, James

June 16, 2007
The late James Delaney The sudden and unexpected death of Jim (James) Delaney shocked the parish of Killea on Monday, 4th June, 2007. Jim who had lived in Killea for over 40 years where all his children were raised hailed from Knockanroe. Jim was the sort of person who was always on the go and was great for visiting people and keeping up the old tradition of calling in to see his neighbours and friends. Indeed then night before he died he had been up chatting with one of his oldest friends Tom Burke until late on Sunday night. It would not have been unusual for him to get passionate about the latest hurling or football match or politics and could be up talking with friends till the early hours of the morning. He delighted in the holidays when all his kids would be home from wherever they were and Jim would have no hesitation in staying up chatting till the sun came up, he was definitely a man for a good old chat. He will be sadly missed by his many friends that he used to call upon. He was a country man born and bred and loved the countryside and enjoyed following the hunt around the local countryside whenever the event was held. He was also a major GAA fan and delighted in the game of hurling and football, in his youth he played from local right up to county level and was indeed known as one of the best hurlers of his time to come our of Knockanroe. One of his other passions in life was also the great card game of 25 and he spent many a long night with family and friends up in Sullivans pub in Killea arguing till the early hours of the morning and who played the right hand of cards. He is survived by his wife Margie, sons Gerard, John, Michael, James and Brian, and daughters Margaret and Nancy and also his sister Peggy and brother Sean, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many cousins and other relations. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbours and indeed anyone who knew him. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of the Tipperary Star 16 June 2007
