Hennessy Tipps the scales against Cork
July 08, 2007
Nine points from Seamus Hennessy were crucial as Tipperary dethroned 14-man Cork in this enthralling ESB Munster MHC final at Thurles.
Tipperary 0-18
Cork 1-11
The sides were level when the Rebels had Eoin McCarthy sent off with twelve minutes left to play but from there on in Tipperary made a scoring burst to secure the crown.
It was tit for tat in the first half with the Tipp, the reigning All-Ireland champions, holding a narrow 0-8 to 0-7 interval lead.
With Hennessey unerring from placed ball, the Premier boys moved 0-11 to 0-9 ahead shortly after the break before Cork grabbed the only goal of the game through Donough Stack to take the lead. Hennessey levelled the game and it was at that point that Cork were reduced to 14 men.
Noel McGrath pounced to point Tipperary back into the lead and they never looked back as they stretched their advantage in the closing moments.
