Leamy, PJ

April 21, 2007
The late PJ Leamy Erinagh, near Nenagh, is mourning the tragic death of a popular local gentleman after a farm accident claimed his life on April 10th, 2007. In accordance with local tradition sixty eight neighbours helped dig PJ Leamy's grave as thousands attended one of the largest funerals the small community has seen in years, a testimony to the esteem in which the late Mr Leamy was held in the locality. Our LAdy of Lourdes Church, Silvermines was packed to capacity as Fr Brendan Moloney oversaw a touching ceremony in memory of the life-long GAA and family man. Fr Manus Rogers who knew PJ all his life and enjoyed going to matches with him also paid warm and glowing tributes to PJ, who leaves behind two sons, Maurice and Michael. PJ had been working on his farm with his son Maurice when he died after being involved in an accident separating cattle. Friend and colleague of PJ, former GAA County Senior Secretary Michael O'Brien, described PJ as "an absolutely wonderful man". PJ was born and lived all his life in the parish. His wife Molly died 20 years ago, in 1987. While he didn't hurl himself as his father had received an injury leaving PJ to work the farm, friends say he never missed a match, even if it was an under 10, under 12 of under 14 clash. Glowing tributes were paid to the 80 years old, who loved the outdoors. Apart from his love of the GAA, his other great passion was farming at home. One of his loves was to motor around his farm on his quad bike and he socialised with young and old alike. "He had a wonderful way with everybody. He could chat with a fellow of six as well as he could chat with a fellow of 80," said Mr O'Brien. PJ Leamy, husband if the late Molly; is deeply mourned by his family, much loved father of Maurice and Michael, adored grandad of Kathleen, Maurice, Patrick, Hughie and Mark, loving father in law of Anne Marie and Fiona: sadly missed by his sisters in law, brothers in law, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many great friends. His remains Reposed at his son's Michael's residence in Erinagh. The Funeral ceremony took place at Our Lady's of Lourdes Church, Silvermines for Requiem Mass. Burial took place afterwards in Kilmore Cemetery. Donations were made in lieu of flowers to Nenagh Hospital. Ni beheidh a leithead ann aris. Courtesy of the Tipperary Star 21 April 2007
