Dwyer, Dan

The late Dan Dwyer The death occurred at his residence of Dan Dwyer, an octogenarian, Dan suffered indifferent death. He had been an industrious, hardworking farmer up to his retirement in later years, due to failing health. In his youthful years, he was a keen hurler and was on the local junior team of 1941 - which won the county championship. Of course his interest in the ups and downs of the local team never wanted. He loved his games of cards and was a keen and enthusiastic "25" player. Dan was of a very friendly disposition and a great man for tracing. He lived a long and full life. He had his priorities always right, possessing a simple and strong faith. He helped at ceremonies in the Abbey and during the Novena and was always willing whenever required. Dan was nephew of the late Dr Michael O'Dwyer, Superior General of the Columbian Missionary Fathers and was brother of the late Fr Mick and Fr Paddy O'Dwyer both Columbian Priests who predeceased him some years ago. Peace to his kindly soul. To his wife Hannie, daughters Catherine and Mai, sisters Alice, Sr Angela and Kitty, sons-in-law, grandchildren, relatives we offer our sympathy. Dan's remains were brought tot eh Abbey and after Requiem Mass celebrated by a Columban Father, concelebrated by a number of priests, Columban and local, he was interred in the Abbey Cemetery. A large representative congregation came to say farewell to Dan, both at evening funeral and at his Mass and burial. Courtesy of The Tipperary Star 06 January 2007
