The late James Maher The death of James Maher occurred on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at his home in Mullingar in the presence of his loving wife Michelle (nee McGinley), his two darling children Fionnuala and Ciaran, and his nearest and dearest family members, having borne with extraordinary patience and bravery his terminal illness diagnosed almost three years ago. James Maher came from a very old Thurles family with strong ties to the Gaelic Athletic Association since its foundation and he never lost interest in the progress of Tipperary hurling. Sport in general and music were his main interests apart from his deep dedication to his family. His loyal friends in Thurles and other locations where he worked, especially at Ericsson in Athlone, were as one in their praise and admiration of a unique person, and may his gentle soul rest in peace in the merciful arms of Jesus.
