Ryan, Jimmy

June 03, 2006
The late Jimmy Ryan The death occurred at his residence, Tobinscross of Jimmy Ryan formerly of Garrynamona. An Octogenarian deceased was an industrious and progressive farmer until recent times when he suffered ill health which necessitated more or less his retirement. In his youthful years he was a noted player on the local hurling teams from 1951 to the early sixties. He was on the panel of players when Holycross-Ballycahill hurlers won county honours in 1951 and 1954. Over the years he continued to be a loyal supporter of the local hurling and football teams. Jimmy loved music and possessed a beautiful singing voice. Quiet and unassuming he was a kind neighbour and friend and will be sadly missed especially by his wife Ann, sons Jim, John and Philip, daughters Geraldine and Mary to whom sympathy is extended. His remains were brought to the Abbey and members past and present of the hurling club formed a guard of honour as his coffin was draped in the green and white of Holycross-Ballycahill was carried into the Abbey. His cousin Very Rev. Jim Fogarty was chief celebrant of the Mass assisted by Very Rev. Tom Breen, Very Rev. Eugene Everard, Very Rev. D. Cunningham, Very Rev. Liam Ryan, Very Rev. J. Egan, Very Rev. G Bourke, Fr. C. Tierney, Fr. M. Hayes, Fr. M. Dawn, Fr. J. Maher, Fr. T. Fogarty and Fr. Evemerindo. Jimmy was interred in Ballycahill cemetery. The vast and representative attendance at both the removal of his remains to the Abbey and at the Mass and funeral was evident of Jimmy's popularity and that of the Ryan family. Peace to his kindly soul. Jimmy Ryan is also mourned by his brother Joe, nephews, nieces and many friends to whom we also extend our sympathy. Courtesy of The Tipperary Star 03 June 2006
