The late Patrick O'Sullivan The untimely death of Patrick O'Sullivan, a native of Newtown, Knock, brought great shock and sadness to everyone that had the privilege to know him, not only in Knock but all surrounding areas. Aged, 41 he died after a short illness, which he fought with great courage and dignity. News of his illness was met with shock and sadness as one by one we became aware of the seriousness of his illness. Son of Matthew and the late Kathleen O'Sullivan, Patrick was educated in Knock primary school and Roscrea Technical. A self driven man, he started his own successful manufacturing business and also ran the family farm. He was a diligent and hard worker. When it came to the community of Knock, his wisdom, tact and gentle nature was eagerly sought after. He gave freely of his time to fundraisers and projects, always participating in the front line, always caring. Patrick was involved for many years with the local GAA club, an accomplished hurler, giving sterling service to the club as a player and administrator. He could also be seen at the new pitch and putt course, where he enjoyed a leisurely game with his friends. On these occasions his wonderful humour and wit could often be heard, where he exchanged friendly banter with his opponents. A deeply proud father of three, Matthew, Daniel and Sarah. A loving and devoted husband to Kathleen, who he affectionately called "Brown". They were a very united family and his untimely death cast a great blow to both them, his many friends and neighbours. Patrick's remains were moved to his home, where huge numbers had come to pay their respects. He was received by Rev. Fr Flannery where a guard of honour was formed by the GAA club and local community at Knock church. The church again over-flowed the following day, when Requiem Mass was celebrated. Symbols of Patrick's life were taken to the altar by his wife, children, family and friends. Sacred music was performed by John Kelly and Teresa Larkin. A card that he gave to Kathleen, reflecting on the simplicity of life and love was read, epitomising the simple things that gave him pleasure and that he wanted to give in return. Patrick's remains were later taken to the adjoining cemetery for internment. Tragically his uncle, Matthew O'Meara, deceased after a long illness two weeks earlier. A fine gentleman and friend who had lived all his life in Knock. Sincere sympathy is extended to Kathleen, Matthew, Daniel, Sarah, Matthew Senr., Elizabeth, Margaret, Catherine and extended family on their tragic bereavement.
