Cahill, Anthony

December 03, 2005
Late Anthony Cahill, Barnane Anthony Cahill of Barnane, Templemore died on Nov. 17th. Born in 1929 in Leugh, Thurles, Anthony came to Barnane to live with his aunt Mrs Berkery, where he continued his education in the CBS Templemore. On leaving school he took up full time farming until his recent retirement. The late Anthony was highly regarded by his neighbours and numerous friends. His passing leaves a void in the area, Anthony was a devout Catholic and regular Mass-goer. This was clearly illustrated by his willing participation in all Church activities, be they fundraising or assisting in the restoration of Drom Church. Indeed Anthony was very active in all local affairs. One of the founding members of Drom Community Centre, he served as joint treasurer up to the time of his death. He was also instrumental in establishing Barnane Group Water Scheme, where he served as secretary. A good conversationalist and a great tracer, Anthony had many wide-ranging interests. He loved the lively banter of political discussions and enjoyed all sporting endeavours. Always to be found with a mischievous grin and a good sense of humour he loved conversing with people of all ages and in particular teasing the very young. A true Gael he loved nothing better than following the fortunes of Tipperary and Drom and Inch at all levels. He won Junior medal for Drom in 1951 and in later years he served as selector and loyal committee member. At the time of his death, he held the position of Club President. Of great satisfaction to Anthony was the great run the club enjoyed this year. The esteem he was held in by the club was bourne out by the huge Guard of Honour which attended his funeral. A loyal and devoted family man, he will be sadly missed by his wife Nancy and family, John, Joe, Cathrine, Anne, Patricia and many relatives. May he rest in peace. Ni beidh a leitheid ann aris.
