The Late Paddy Carroll There is genuine sadness throughout the district at the untimely death of Paddy Carroll, St. Flannan's Road, Killaloe, on November 5th, just one year and ten months after the death of his beloved wife, Anne (nee Hogan). A true gentleman, Paddy was extremely popular in Killaloe-Ballina since coming to live in the district over forty years ago. For many years he was employed as a driver at Tom Hayes Construction Ltd. A great sportsman and supporter of Portroe and Smith O'Brien Gaa Clubs, PAddy was born in the parish of Portroe in 1934 and having married a Clare lady, thoroughly enjoyed and contributed to the Clare-Tipperary rivalry down through the years. He was also a very fine athlete and as a member of Portroe Athlete Club won County Cross Country championship in all grades. He also represented Tipperary and won Munster and All-Ireland medals. These medals were brought to the altar in the Offertory procession during the Requiem Mass. Paddy's sincerity endeared him to young and old. Large crowds of sympathiser paid their last respects to Paddy at Lynch's Funeral Home and at St. Flannan's Church, Killaloe. Requiem Mass was concelebrated by Fr. James Grace, Fr. Pat Malone and Fr. Noel Hayes. Paddy was laid to rest in Reilig Lua on November 7th, with his beloved Anne; his son Bernard, who died on November 7th 1995, and his infant daughter, Mary Bridget, who died on November 7th 1969. Sincere sympathy is extended to Antoinette and Geraldine; his grandchildren (McMahons and O'Neills); his siblings Kathleen, Patsy, Noreen, Philomena, Peggy, Mary, Tom, Noel, Liam and Murtie; his extended family, relatives and friends. May his gentle soul, rest in peace. Courtesy of Tipperary Star 19/11/2005
