The Late Dinny O'Gorman The death at the great age of 90 has occurred of Dinny O'Gorman, Limerick and formerly of Glenreigh. Dinny was predeceased just two years ago by his wife Mary (nee Flanagan of Galberstown). Deceased prior to his retirement was an inspector with the Department of Agriculture in the Compulsory Tillage department. A noted hurler who played for many years at county level, Dinny won minor All-Ireland's in 1930 and 1932 when he captained the team to victory. He also won: Junior All-Ireland in 1933, senior All-Ireland in 1937, Railway Cup medals in 1938,'39,'40 and '42. Munster minor championships in 1930, '31, '32. Munster junior championships in '33 and Munster senior championships in 1937 and '41. He was on the county senior team from 1934-42 and won county junior championship with Holycross Ballycahill in 1941. His brothers Danny, Matt and Ned were also on that team. A county selector from 1951-1955, Dinny ranks among the greats of the caman. A man of friendly disposition and a keen family man he will be missed sadly by his sons Bill, Denis, John, Danny and Jim and his brother Matt in Gelnrigh. He is also survived by his daughter in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Peace to his soul. His remains were brought to the Abbey and after Requiem Mass he was interred beside his wife in the Abbey Cemetery. Members of the GAA formed a Guard of Honour as the remains were brought to the Abbey and again as he was laid to rest. His coffin was draped in the county colours. The oration at the graveside was eloquently given by Bob Stakelum. Evidence of Dinny's standing was the huge representative turn-out of people from near and far at both the evening funeral, Mass and burial. Many GAA enthusiasts, young and old, were present to pay their respects to their hero Dinny O'Gorman. Courtesy of the Tipperary Star 14th May 2005
