The Late Tommy Murray It is with deep regret that we learned on Saturday morning April 24th of the sudden passing of Tommy Murray Timvoher, Loughmore. Although having passed his 83rd birthday he was a man that made very light of his years and was in perfect health until the time off his passing. Tommy joined the army in 1942 and spent many years on Co. Kerry, his claim to fame on the football field of the now famous Austin Stack Park in Tralee was marking the great Joe Keohane in army game. Handball was a favourite sport of his also and he excelled very well at many levels in various alleys around the country. Affectionately known as "The Mur", he was a great character, rougish at times be it fishing, hunting his favourite games of cards and later times the game of pool. As a worker on the various farms of the parish he excelled at the various tasks involved in farming. Tommy spent his last five years in the excellent care of Kathleen and Rory Kinnane Borrisoleigh, a time he enjoyed greatly, and looked forward to a visit from all his neighbours and friends. A fitting tribute to "the Mur" was to have his coffin draped in the colours of the Loughmore/Castleiney Club, the large attendance at his funeral on both days was testimony to the high esteem in which he was held by both young and old. One of his great sayings leaving the village was "when you turn right at the four roads." Ar dheis Dé go raibha anam dilis. Courtesy of the Tipperary Star May 2004
