Despite finishing with 13 men, Tipperary inflicted a six point defeat on Offaly in today's quarter-final at O'Connor Park, Tullamore.

The end result was never in doubt once Seamus Callanan found the back of the Offaly net in the 17th minute to parachute the Premier County into a 1-6 to 0-1 lead.

By the halfway stage, Eamon O'Shea's charges had built up an unassailable 13 point advantage - 1-14 to 0-4.

The second-half started where the first finished off with a Ronan Maher point extending Tipp's lead and Offaly looked a beaten docket from a long way out.

The win came at a cost, however, for the Munster men as goalscorer Callanan was shown a straight red card following an off-the-ball incident in the 40th minute.

Later on they were down to 13 men when Cathal Barrett was sent for an early shower after picking up a second yellow card.

To their credit, Brian Whelahan's men capitalised on their numerical advantage to hit seven unanswered points to add a touch of respectability to the end scoreline while a Shane Dooley penalty was kept out by Tipp in the closing stages.

The competition favourites will await the winners of the last eight clash between Galway and Waterford in the last four on Sunday, April 19th.
