Hoctor, Paudi

November 28, 2013
On Friday November 1st there was widespread regret and sadness in the Templemore and Delvin areas with the news of the sudden death of Paudi Hoctor. Paudi had been visiting his mother and stayed overnight when the sad event occurred.
One of a family of nine born to Seamus and Mary, Paudi lived in the Main Street and later in Kiltillane up to the early 1980s when his work took him to various parts of the world, including America, London and Brussells for 7/8 years. He returned to Ireland in 2006, was working for the EU Commission and lived in Delvin with his wife Kate (Davern from Templemore) and three children.
Paudie was a former player with Templemore Eire Og, and he had a huge interest in the GAA and the promotion of gaelic games. As a young boy in 1969/1970 he frequently came out to the Clonmore GAA grounds with his next door neighbour PJ O'Brien, who was training the Clonmore junior hurling and juvenile teams at that time, and no doubt PJ's passion for the game left a mark on the young Paudie. He played at juvenile level for 6/7 years, then at the juvenile grade before he graduated to minor and was a very valuable member of the team at left corner back in the 1978 mid final defeat to Loughmore Castleiney. He quickly made it on the senior panel in 1979 and his dedication and commitment to the game was very much in evidence when he became a committee member of the juvenile club in 1979. He played in his favourite left corner back position in the 1980 Mid final defeat to Loughmore Castleiney on June 22nd, prior to the Tipperary v Cork Munster semi final at Thurles. It was only appropriate that his coffin was draped in the green and white of Templemore and a guard of honour provided from his home to the Church of the Sacret Heart by Brackens and Eire Og players and committee.
Smypathy to his wife Kate, sons, Nathan and Sean and daughter Marissa, grandson Liam, mother Mary, sisters, Phil, Marie, Nuala and Katriona, brothers, Ger, Aidan, Mark and David.
