King, Seamus

September 15, 2011
As the centre gears up for the forthcoming season kin Killavilla, all were saddened to hear news of the death of neighbour and friend, Mr Seamus King.

Seamus, who had reached his 92nd year, was a great supporter and voluntary helper at the Centre over many years. He was hugely instrumental in the winning of Killavilla's first and most famous hurling championship title win in Tullamore on a cold November Sunday in 1956. He was full back on that never to be forgotten team.

Before he came with his wife Nan to live in Dungar, Killavilla, he played on successful teams in Moneygall, Coolderry and in his native Knockshegowna. He was a proud and delighted man when his son, Christy, was chosen to play on the successful Offaly team that won their first All-Ireland Senior Hurling title in 1981.
As well as his lifelong interest in hurling, Seamus' knowledge of farming, especially horses, was immense. He was the owner of a successful race horse, aptly named 'Diamond Jack.'

Seamus also enjoyed watching the drama productions at Killavilla Centre and he was a great neighbour to so many in the area.
Sympathy is extended to his wife Nan, sons Gerard, Christy, Martin, Eugene and Paul, his daughters Mary and Anne and his extended family. May he rest in peace.
