Kelly, Fr Tony

April 21, 2011
Fr. Tony Kelly was passed away on Tuesday, 12th April was in his day a most accomplished hurler for his school, our club and county. After winning a Dean Ryan Cup medal with Thurles CBS in 1952, he graduated to the Tipperary Minor team the following year, playing in every game at full back as victories over Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Antrim and Dublin secured the All Ireland title.

He soon progressed on to our club senior team, playing at right half forward in the Mid final of 1955, a game won by Sarsfields before a crowd of 8,000 people in Gaile. Having joined the Colomban Fathers, to whom he gave a lifetime of service in the Philippines, his recent times were spent in retirement at the Colomban College at Dalgan Park, Co. Meath where at his funeral last week, his coffin appropriately bore the flags of his club and county on its final journey. Our sympathy to his entire family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
