Ryan, Dan

April 18, 2009
The unexpected death of Dan Ryan, Ratharcalainn, Golden, evoked a sense of shock and deep sympathy in the Parish. Danny, who hailed from a strong farming background worked for most of his life with Dairygold Milk Collection Service and in latter years, with Tarrant Concrete. A holder of strong Political views, Danny was a staunch member of the local Fianna Fail Cumann, it was fitting that the very fine graveside oration was given on behalf of the Cumann by Councillor Joe O'Donovan from Aherlow. It was jokingly mentioned during the obsequies, that Danny had an aversion to buying or wearing a blue shirt. Danny played hurling himself in his early years and was a great supporter of the local GAA club all his life. The funeral cortege was met by a Guard of Honour formed by GAA members. The game of darts was dear to his heart and he played with and supported the Toohey's Pub Team for many years. Danny's remains were removed from Devitt's Funeral Parlour, Cashel to Golden Church on Tuesday 31st March. Burial was at the adjoining Cemetery after Requiem Mass on Wednesday. The huge attendance at the obsequies bore ample testimony of Danny's popularity and that of his family. Sincere sympathy is extended to Danny's wife Kathleen, daughter Geraldine, sons John, Donal, Gerard and Damien, brothers John, Michael and Christy, sister Joan, other relatives and many friends. May he rest in peace. Tipperary Star, 18th April 2009
